Oyo NUJ condemns backlog of salaries by Governors

THE Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo state Council at the weekend slams some governors in Nigeria for their insensitivity to the plight of civil servants in the state by owing them backlog of salaries leading to death of some people.

This was contained in a statement released in a communique released after its October congress  held its Congress on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Dapo Aderogba Conference Hall Press Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The communique reads: “The Union condemned the various State Governors owing several months
arrears of salaries and regretted that it has led to loss of lives of workers.

“The Union equally frowned at non-payment of local government workers salaries in Oyo state for several months.

“That for the fight against corruption of President Muhammadu Buhari to be effective, there should be transparency on the part of the Federal Government.

“The Union condemned the incessant attacks of herdsmen in various parts of the Country as attacks and destruction of human lives and farmlands remained unabated.

“The Congress Commended Oyo State government for its resolve to conduct local government elections in 33 Local Government Council Areas of Oyo State and charged the State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct free, fair and credible elections.

“The Union highlighted the importance of the on-going Bio-metic Registration of its members and stressed the need to do so to reduce quackery and enhance status symbol.”
