NMPC wants Buhari to investigate human trafficking cartel in Libya

The National Movement for Positive Change (NMPC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the slave trade involving Nigerians through the border and desert of Libya.

The group also urges the Federal Republic of Nigeria to put in place measures that can stop the channel by which these human traffickers flourish in other to safeguard the youth of the country from untimely death.”

This was stated in a statement signed and released by the President of the organisation, Niyi Aborisade. He said the revelation about an inhuman treatment meted out to some Nigerians either living in Libya or faced with the struggle crossing either the desert or meditarenean to Europe is a setback on any cause and fight against the slave trade believed to have been won over 200 years ago.

According to Aborisade, “NMPC detest any form form of slavery in any part of the world, in particular, the recent slave trade chain on-going in Libya.

“NMPC call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to quickly intervene in the matter, save the lives of hundreds of Nigerians currently languishing in the slave camp in Libya.

“It should be noted that many people have been sold already, dead, dying and brutalised while the government of Nigeria has continue to slow to react to the plight of Nigerians affected.

“We expect the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to be responsible and be alive to its duties without delay.

“From findings, it is even disturbing to know from some of the returnees that some Nigerians are even involved in taking their fellow countrymen through such pain and agony in the cause of making money.

“Therefore, we urge President Muhammadu Buhari to tale urgent steps in addressing the matter.
