Libya slave trade: NMPC protests in London

A Non-Governmental Organisation,non-political organizations comprising of eminent concerned Nigerians at home and abroad, the Nigerians Movements for Positive Change (NMPC) at the weekend held a peaceful protest tagged National Anti-Slavery march to the Libyan embassy in London.

Members of the NMPC in conjunction with some organizations that shares its vision thronged the embassy in the cold weather, carrying placards with various inscriptions to press home their messages.

Despite the harsh weather, NMPC members were chanting solidarity songs, danced round the venue before their representatives mounted the podium to air their grievances to the concerned authority.

Participants had gathered by 11.00 a.m at the Belgrade square, London, nearest tube stations, Hyde park corner, Knights bride Victoria and marched to the Libyan Embassy, 15 Knights bridge, Belgravian, London, SW1X7LY, for the protest.

The seriousness of the cause of protest was clearly evident in the variance of citizens of countries that participated in the protest.

According to a statement signed and released by a member of the Elder in Council of NMPC, General Martins (retd), the organisation decided to made its position known to the Libyan authority to intimate it on the need to take serious constitutional steps in checking the crime being perpetrated in its backyard.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards read: “fight anti-balckness, Fxxx The EU funded Arab run slave trade”, “Black lives matter, No justice, no peace”, “slavery must go. Refugees and migrants welcome here”,”stand up to racism. Migrants and refugees welcome here. Blame austerity, not migrants”, “#Stop Libya # Stop slave trade”, among others.

At the Libyan embassy, NMPC spokesperson said the National anti-slavery march in London was aimed to demonstrate against “the enslaving and selling of black Africans in Libya, illegal detention of black Africans in Libya concentration camps, torture of black Africans in Libya, raping of African women in Libya and the extrajudicial killing of black African children in Libya.”

The organisation further added that the protest is the begininig of various steps to be taken in order to put an end to such inhuman treatments against black Africans anywhere in the world .
