The National Movement for Positive Change (NMPC),has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to respect the gentleman’s advise of the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on his advise not to contest 2019 election.

NMPC’scall was made by its national President, Barrister Niyi Aborisade in a statement released on Thursday.

Former president Obasanjo had on Monday in a letter titled “The way out: A clarion call for Nigeria Movement”,called on President on Buhari to jettison the idea of re-contesting for presidency in 2019.

The former president noted that Buhari administration and the APC has failed on three grounds; nepotism, national security and buck passing, thus appealed to President Buhari to go home and rest, and also suggesting a Coalition Movement towards 2019.

Obasanjo said, “I only appeal to brother Buhari to consider a deserved rest at this point in time and at this age. I continue to wish him robust health to enjoy his retirement from active public service. President Buhari does not necessarily need to heed my advice. But whether or not he heeds it, Nigeria needs to move on and move forward.”

On this, Aborisade then commended Chief Obasanjo’s advice to President Buhari, noting that this could not have come at a better moment than this, urging President Buhari to desist from any deceit who tells otherwise.

According to Aborisade,” We are of the opinion that Buhari should not contest again. It is now time to look for a credible candidate for president.President Buhari and the cabals can no longer stir the ship of Nigeria to the promised land.

“Nigerians are placed with enough plague-hardship on almost every front – economy, health, job insecurity, national security, rise in religious and ethnic rivalry, Fulani Herdsmen crisis among others.

“Overtime in the over two years that President Buhari has been in power, the situation have gone from bad to worse from politics to economy, and now security of the country is being threatened by the attitude of President to events in the last 100 days.

“Since he assumed office in 2015 with high expectations and full of hope, the President has failed to convince an average Nigerian that he is ever ready to live up to those promises churned out during the electioneering period. With every sincerity, just like the former President Obasanjo pointed out, there no single area that one can say that President Buhari has stood his ground.

“On every point of this administration’s so-called achievements, Nigerians have freely pick holes in those window dressed achievement claimed by those living on the corridors of power. The degree of propaganda, in-fighting from heads of government agencies, political office holders, and aides of President Buhari, has been taking to an unenviable height. This has naturally gave an hint that all is not well with the cabal running this government.

“The undeniable fact is the position of the wife of the President,Aishat, to several failures of her husband’s administration which she has made known to the public on several fora.

“We are quite sure that this is not unconnected with the age and health status of President Buhari. Though, emotionally we sympathise with him,but we are of the opinion at the same time that we should not hold on to this excuse for too long if we really desire objective progress and development of our dear great country.

“This is why our movement- NMPC, strongly advises, canvasses and suggests that a younger person be encouraged, supported and be ready to take over the affairs of Nigeria come 2019. We will be throwing our weight behind any youthful, credible and development oriented aspirant with clean track record to steer the ship of this great country to the promised land.”
