The Senate yesterday summoned the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, the Chief of

Daura, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, Comptroller – General of Customs,

Hameed Ali and his immigration counterpart, Mohammed Babandede

No date has been fixed for the appearance of the security chiefs. They are to appear before

the Senate to proffer solutions to the challenge of proliferation of firearms.

The Senate mandated its Committee on Intelligence and National Security to conduct a

thorough investigation with a view to unravelling the remote and immediate causes of the

proliferation of firearms in the country, as well as proffer a lasting solution to the

problem.

The resolutions followed a motion sponsored by Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi (APC, Kaduna). He

said tribal, communal, religious and other sectarian clashes; including the farmers/herders

crises were now more devastating due to wrongful and easy acquisition of firearms in the

country.
