The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has reiterated that for medicine security, the Federal Government must as a matter of urgency take critical action to implement the National Drug Policy.

PSN President, Ahmed Yakasai while briefing newsmen on the 91st national conference of the society holding in Ibadan spoke against the backdrop of recent revelations that some Chinese drugs with human flesh are in circulation.

The conference with the theme, “Innovative Disruption in Pharmacy In Emerging Economies: A Roadmap For Nigeria” would be attended by 5000 pharmacists across the country and beyond.

The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) had confirmed receipt of a letter from South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety alerting them of the drugs containing “human remains from fetuses, infants and flesh”.

However Yakasai who urged relevant authorities in Nigeria like NAFDAC, Nigeria Customs Services, among others to remain at alert said implementing the drugs policy would promote local drug production and reduce dependence on imported medicines.

He said members of the public must be very conscious “of where and how they purchase their medicines”.
