The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Tuesday said it has suspended its planned mass action scheduled for Thursday, pending the outcome of the Kano State House of Assembly Investigative panel on Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s alleged bribe video.

The student body had on Friday gave President Muhammadu Buhari a seven-day ultimatum to probe the authenticity of a viral video allegedly showing Governor Ganduje receiving bribe from a contractor.

NANS earlier said it will mobilize students, youth organizations and civil society groups for a nationwide showdown if the president fails to address the matter immediately.

“This became imperative as NANS got informed that a committee in the Kano State House of Assembly has been set up for public hearing on this,” a statement by the union national public relations officer Adeyemi Azeez Amoo said on Tuesday.

The union said it had resolved to send its representatives to observe the public hearing in Kano. The selected officials are the national PRO Comrade Amoo, Secretary General, Comrade Yusuf Umaru and the President of NANS Senate, Comrade Gambo Abubakar Mohammed.

“These officials should represent the teeming Nigerian students at the public hearing, so as to avail Nigerian students the raw details and findings of the allegations.”

The statement said “it is pertinent to note, that NANS is highly determined to monitor this to the later and will act accordingly on the outcome of the public hearings as observed the three National executive members assigned on this assignment.”
