NMPC demands unconditional release of Sowore

A Non-Governmental Organisation, the Nigeria Movement for Positive Change (NMPC) has called on the Federal Government to release the publisher of Saharareporters and initiator of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore following his arrest at the weekend in Lagos.

NMPC, made this known in a statement signed and issued by its assistant secretary, Kayode Aderemi , and made available to journalists on Sunday.

The NGO described Sowore as speaking the minds of millions of voiceless Nigerians on the true state of things in the country.

According to the statement, “It is widely reported that at about 1:30 hours of August 3, 2019, Mr. Omoyele Sowore was arrested and whisked away by the operatives of the State Security Services.

“The arrest, we gathered, was based on Mr. Sowore’s planned protest across Nigeria on August 5, 2019. We, the Nigeria Movement for Positive Change (NMPC) have gone through all the content of the “Three Bundles” forming the pivot of his planned protest, which are; end to anti-people economic policies;end special privileges for the ruling class; and return political power and national wealth to the working people.

“We reckon that a Better Nigeria is what he is calling for and in very specific, unequivocal terms. For the records, this is the cry and call of millions of Nigeria, whether at home or abroad!

“We have made wide consultations and reckon that the Gestapo kind of arrest of Mr. Sowore is needless, undemocratic, uncalled for and engender the growing disposition of disregard of rights in immeasurable magnitude! We condemn his arrest in the strongest terms!

“We therefore request for the unconditional release of Mr Omoyele Sowore, forthwith.”
