Reflections Without Mirror: The mysteries of Reincarnation and Akudaaya- Part 2. Niyi Aborisade:

This is a continuation of the piece first published on 06.10.2023.

In 1971, at Opo- Yeosa, in Ibadan, a man dressed traditionally came to a building, a one story building, in the downstairs was a woman selling garri, Bread etc.
The man held the pole in front of the house, and when people who knew him saw him, they first ran away, for they knew he was dead some years ago. The man opened his mouth to address a man sitting in the upper room of the house. He said he purposely came to expose the man, his elder brother, who sent him to the world beyond when his time was not yet fulfilled. He pointed to the place where he was buried and the year he died and pointed to the man as the person behind his untimely death. He now cursed the man in the presence of everybody that the man would fall sick and the sickness would kill him. The man fell sick instantly and died afterwards.

A pastor and a genuine man of God also in his rejoinder to part one of this piece told me of his aunt who had died, and some people who were not aware of her death saw her at different places even after her death. The appartition remains a mystery.

A man died in 1991, well known to me, he died at the University College Hospital Ibadan, Oyo State, after a brief illness and on the day he died , someone travelling to Lagos who knew him and not aware of his death swore that he met him inside a Bus and they both travelled to Lagos on the same Bus that day.

There was one incident in the bible that confirmed the raising up of the dead, and the dead appeared to the living. Matthew 27 v 50 ‘ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice , yielded up the ghost. And behold, the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rock rent; and the the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves after his ressurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many”. So those who had died came back to life and appeared unto many and returned to the holy city.’ The holy city is shrouded in mystery till date, the location, and the name were not given. I believe the tombs of saints on that day were opened all over the world, and they all went to the same place,’ Holy City’. Thus, we can infer that they are still alive somewhere in a place not known to us but not heaven, of course, because the bible used the word ‘city’. Though, this is an isolated incident, but it resonates with the traditional belief of the Yorubas that there is a city where the death goes after they are dead. ( Ilu awon Oku) town or city of the dead. These are clearly different from Akudaaya, of course, but related to the dead and the existence of the dead somewhere after their death.

Recently, we heard of a man in Lagos who was living with Akudaaya many years and had children together until the man decided to follow her to know her parents. On getting there, the man discovered that he had been living with a ghost for many years because she, who he called his wife, had died many years ago.

One of my Baales told me that, being a doubter of this phenomenon, a man opened his third eye while on a night duty one day and he saw around 1130 pm some dead people around Oje market buying and selling and ordinary eyes of course can see them but they were not aware that they were dead people.

So many testimonies like that abounds and investigation are still ongoing to know more about these things.

I will conclude this piece by quoting from Deuteronomy 29 v 29 ” The secret things belong unto the lord our God, but those things that which were revealed belong to unto us and to our children for ever. There are mysteries all over the world that we can not just dismiss as old women folk tales
