The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says the country will never return to the era of fuel scarcity.

According to a statement by Ndu Ughamadu, NNPC spokesman, Ikem Obih, chief operating officer, downstream, and alternate chairman of the corporation board, made the promise in Abuja.

Ughamadu also said Maikanti Baru, group managing director, has directed Petroleum Products Marketing Company(PPMC) to ensure steady petrol supply during and beyond the Christmas and New Year festive season.

PPMC is the NNPC subsidiary in charge of marketing and distribution of petroleum products in the country.

“The festive season is fast approaching, a period when almost always, people expect queues to happen,” Baru was quoted to have said.

“If last year you had a queue-free festive season, we want this year’s to be a season where fuel station attendants will be inviting motorists to their stands for fuelling.”

Baru charged the PPMC management to cut down the company’s operating cost so as to add value to the corporation, saying the firm was not expected to make losses.

Umar Ajiya, managing director, PPMC, said the resuscitation of depots has contributed to the steady supply of products nationwide.

He said the company would be placed on the part of profitability adding that other petroleum products would be made available alongside petrol.
